The Terms and Conditions Below apply to all repairs:
1. Evaluation fee - a fee of £55 (or £40 for customers booking on line) applies to all unproceedable repairs to cover cost of stripdown & professional evaluation, & re-assembly. Notebooks UK uses qualified component-level engineers and have a 90% repair success rate at performing repairs at fixed price.
2. Fit for repair - all equipment sent for repair must be in good cosmetic order and must be supplied complete – i.e. not in pieces. Notebooks UK reserves the right to refuse repair where poor repair attempts have been carried out by inexperienced parties.
3. Abandoned equipment - all repairs must be collected/received/paid for within 3 months of book-in date – uncollected/unpaid repairs may be sold or used as scrap.
4. Warranty repairs – new products more than 14 days old must be fixed by manufacturer during the manufacturer's warranty period - all other items will be serviced by Notebooks UK.
5. Extra items – must not be submitted with the repair unless otherwise requested by Notebooks UK in which case these have to show up under extra items submitted. Notebooks UK cannot be held responsible for the loss of unlisted items.
6. Invalidating warranty - common factors that invalidate warranty claims include: spillage, stress fractures, screen glass damage, exposure to excess heat resulting in processor failure, signs of third party repair, virus or spyware infection, broken tamper-proof labels, and software faults. An evaluation fee will be charged on all laptops wrongly submitted for warranty repair and standard repair rates will apply.
7. Data backup/retrieval/recovery - is done on a best endevours basis. This is sometimes done on and off site. We use insured couriers or same day bikes with a maximum insurance of £1000 against loss/damage. Valuable items should be delivered by hand and staff should be made aware of the item value should value exceed £1000.
8. Loss - customers must advise Notebooks UK in writing where a higher value is placed on any item submitted for repair as special arrangements have to be made. Without special arrangements being made Notebooks UK will replace the lost item like for like or similar. No value will be placed on data or software as customers should have own master disks & backup.
9. Laptop repairs (electronics) - price includes: complete strip-down, component level diagnostics, micro-electronic repair, cabling, fuses, tracks, capacitors, transistors, small ic's, fets, psb faults, re-assembly and 24 hour post repair test. On all services that involve base strip down we will additionally perform a free cooling system service (de-dust, arctic silver cpu paste, fan bearing service) and a free speed boost service. Should the following parts be required our engineer will call to advise extra cost before commencing work: processors, memory, hard drives, fdds, costly ics, laser units, cmos batteries, cracked displays, backlight tubes & corroded components. Average turnaround is 5-7 days subject to parts availability. Should parts be expensive or difficult to obtain or if damage is excessive we will charge an evaluation fee only. A 3 month warranty will be issued on all successful repairs which will cover the same fault and any components used.
10. Software repairs - all software work is done in accordance to our quality of service certificate. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that all software loaded or re-instated is legally licensed. Customer automatically accepts the licence agreement & terms of any software installed.
11. Cancellations - cannot be accepted once work has begun.
12. Packaging - all goods collected or posted should be adequately packed. Customers sending laptops must use a hard sided rigid corrugated box of adequate size to allow 6" between the notebook and the edges of the box - fill the loose space with polystyrene chips or other shock absorbing filler material. Customers sending hard drives must use a corrugated box with foam or bubble wrap as padding. Poorly packaged goods may result in damage. Notebooks UK may refuse repair on poorly packaged/transit damaged goods.
